Overcoming Good Girl Guilt (Freebie)
Why You Feel Bad Putting Yourself First
Let’s talk about something that so many women struggle with but hardly ever say out loud…
That gut-punch of guilt you feel when you even consider putting your needs before someone else’s comfort.
What Is Good Girl Guilt?
It’s a mental trap we fall into when we believe our needs should come second.
Here’s how it works:
1. You have a genuine need, maybe it’s space, support, or saying no.
2. You think about expressing that need, but it clashes with the belief that “good girls don’t upset people.”
3. Guilt kicks in.
4. So you abandon your need in favour of keeping the peace.
5. You feel resentful, drained, or disconnected from yourself.
6. And then the loop starts again.
So How Do We Break the Guilt?
1. Bring awareness to it.
2. Ask: “What need am I trying to honour right now?”
3. Ask: “Whose comfort am I prioritising over my own wellbeing?”
4. Ask: “Is this guilt coming from a real wrong, or just from breaking an outdated rule?”
You are allowed to honour yourself, even if it makes someone else mildly uncomfortable.
